The Data Tab

The properties in the Data tab allow you to specify data mappings or values for the Element.

Data mapping allows you to link data items in a database to Elements on your form so that data from the database can be displayed within the Elements on your form (input mapping) and/or values entered into the Elements can be written to the database (output mapping).

Some Elements allow you to specify a static value, or, where appropriate, values, here instead of an input mapping. In this case, the value you enter will be displayed or selected in the Element when the page loads. Specifying an input mapping has a similar effect except in this case the value selected or displayed is read in from a database and so the selection or value won't be displayed until the Datasource is downloaded and isn't necessarily fixed and will change if a different record is read.
